Roses Gardening and Buying Roses Guide

Roses are wonderful flowers, but they do need a certain amount of care and attention. No matter how challenging the care of roses can be, it's always rewarding to see a strong and flourishing rose bush. While it's true that you will spend more time on rose maintenance than with many other plants, the care you give them can be done easily while simply enjoying the blooms. Many people choose not to grow roses because they believe roses involve too much work. This really is unfortunate, because although there are easier plants to grow, (the indigenous weeds in your part of the world for instance) roses don't deserve the reputation they have for being 'difficult'.

Roses are the world's favorite flower and this is demonstrated by the size of the global market for rose bushes and cut flowers. They were first cultivated in India some 10,000 years ago and then during the Middle Ages in Europe, they were cultivated in monasteries for their medicinal properties.

Roses are often attributed with a reputation for being difficult to grow; this is only true when gardeners don't understand the roses' preferences. Once we appreciate and then supply their needs, they can be very accommodating.

Send Roses - You may have sent roses to your significant or received some from that special someone and if you know your flowers than you know what they meant behind the large batch they sent you. However, what if you don't know and you end up sending flowers that convey the wrong message.

Many women and even several men know the value of sending flowers for special occasions. More than any other flower, roses are seen as the ultimate symbol of love and affection. But what many people don’t seem to know is the symbolism behind the roses themselves – they just buy what looks pretty. The colors, types, and display of roses have their own significant meanings, which should be taken into account when purchasing roses for that special someone.

Send Roses - Giving a bouquet of beautiful roses makes a clear statement: the receiver of the flowers is dear to the giver in some meaningful way. Different than giving just a bouquet of flowers, roses imply 'Hey, I really mean this!" The giver has made the effort to bestow what some see as the most beautiful and most splendid of flowers, one that for thousands of years has been the symbol of romance and a soother of the heart. Roses have been bred in a variety of colors, each with its particular meaning. Now, there are no hard and fast rules – few recipients will fault one for sending a beautiful bouquet of the 'wrong' color!

Evidence suggests that the red rose is nearly 35 million years old. The most commonly available roses belong to two broad categories: the Oriental species and their hybrids, and the European or Mediterranean species and their hybrids. It is possible to grow a red rose anywhere in the world, if the species to which it belongs is selected according to climatic conditions.

Buying Roses - Red roses signify love and beauty the world over. Poets write about them, writers write prose about them, and people express love by giving each other red roses. Though many people believe that red roses can only be a symbol of romantic love, there are almost as many who strongly feel that red roses can be given to any loved one. They could be given to a sibling, a parent, a friend, a family who has just moved into the neighborhood and needs to be welcomed with affection, and of course, a lover.
